Who We Are

Founded in 2007, EAi is a research and consulting firm whose affiliated consultants have over 100 years of combined experience in all aspects of non-profit management including development, constituent relations, communications, volunteer management and overall management.

We are a group of people who have worked in non-profits our whole career. We understand the importance of what you do for your organizations and the causes you serve. We also know how you can improve by integrating your programs and making informed decisions based upon real data – your data.

Ray Satterthwaite, President

Ray was a Student’s Society Vice President at McGill and began his Advancement career there in the late 80′s. He was director of Alumni Relations and then Annual Giving moving to Queen’s University to serve as Associate Vice-Principal of Advancement and Chief Development Officer running a successful $262 Million Capital Campaign.

Ray has been a presenter and volunteer for both CASE and CCAE and is the immediate Past President CCAE. His research, speaking engagements and articles on the topic of alumni engagement have earned him international recognition for his work including Faculty Star and Rising Star honours from CASE.

Kathy Arney, Strategic Partner

Kathy obtained her Commerce degree and her Chartered Accountant designation from Queen’s and through her career, she developed an expertise in fund development, capacity-building, strategy and operations.

Kathy had a lengthy tenure at Queen’s University in Kingston in both  executive education and advancement, most recently as Executive Director of Advancement Operations and CFO (Advancement) during a $262 Million campaign.

Kathy helped initiate the development office at the new UBC Okanagan campus then moved to Carleton University where she was Director of Faculty Development and Major Gifts. From there she moved to Banff, Alberta as the Chief Development Officer at the Banff Centre developing a deeper understanding and expertise in fundraising for the arts.

As President of KEA Canada, Kathy has consulted in the hospital sector, municipal fundraising, universities and arts organizations on advancement restructuring, strategic and operational planning and review, and campaigns.

Catherine MacNeill, Senior Consultant

Catherine brings extensive experience in relationship management to EAi in the areas  of alumni relations, student recruitment and educational governance.

Catherine served as Executive Director of the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE). Prior to CCAE, Catherine served as the Director of Alumni Affairs at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario as well as manager of student recruitment for over 10 years.

Catherine has presented worldwide at CASE Europe, CASE Asia, CCAE and the Association of Registrars of Universities and Colleges of Canada. She serves on the Board of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Catherine is also a  facilitator for the Leadership Development Services of the United Way of Canada for the Kingston area.

Catherine has a BA in Latin from Queen’s University.

Sheila J. Norris, Strategic Partner

Sheila works in the field of leadership and team development, and is focused on helping teams and individuals develop concrete, practical solutions to their problems, or to identify practical, realistic options for their challenges.

She provides an interesting resource to EAi in that she is able to assist with challenges that aren’t always about the content of the work. She has worked with advancement teams in the healthcare, arts and higher education sectors for more than 15 years, and has a deep understanding of the challenges –  internal and external – facing these teams.

She helps teams to improve their processes and their dynamics, and helps individuals to leverage their strengths as individual contributors and as part of a team. She also helps to set up effective teams and can assist with strategic planning and operational next steps.

Sheila has a BSc (Eng) and a MEd (Adult Education) from Queen’s.
